Information we receive from you

Account details, posts, comments, reactions, enquiries, listing information, uploaded photographs and documents, and technical usage information needed to run and secure the website.

Where our directory information comes from

Most directory listings were not supplied by the business concerned. We compile them from published sources:

• OpenStreetMap — business names, categories and locations, used under the Open Database Licence.
• National company registers — including UK Companies House and Corporations Canada, published under open government licences.
• Businesses' own websites — where a listing already included a web address, we may have read the contact details published on that site.

If your business appears here and you would like the entry corrected or removed, you can claim the listing or write to us. We act on removal requests without requiring a reason.

How information is used

To provide accounts and community features, deliver enquiries, improve search and ranking, prevent abuse, and maintain the security of the platform.

Public content

Posts, comments, profile names, uploaded media and directory listings are public. Do not publish private or confidential information.

Contact details on directory listings are shown only in part to visitors who are not signed in.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and browser storage items. A full description is on our cookie policy page.

• mco_session — a first-party cookie that keeps you signed in and protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Strictly necessary; it carries no advertising or tracking function.
• Browser storage — small preferences kept on your own device, such as which gallery layout you last chose. These never reach our servers.

Advertising

This site shows advertising supplied by Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our sites and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising at any time through Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent before any advertising cookie is set, and you may change or withdraw that choice at any time.

Who else handles your information

Our hosting provider stores the website and its database. Cloudflare sits in front of the site to deliver pages and filter malicious traffic. Google provides advertising and the consent tool used to record your advertising choices. We do not sell personal information.

How long we keep it

Account and content records are kept while the account exists. Directory listings are kept until corrected or removed. Security and abuse-prevention records are kept for a short period and then deleted automatically.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you may ask us to give you a copy of the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Write to privacy@mycanadaonline.com and we will respond within one month.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, we rely on our legitimate interest in operating a public business directory to publish directory listings, and on your consent for advertising cookies. You may object to our use of your information at any time, and you may complain to your national data protection authority — in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office.
